Think of a dancer’s body…infinitely supple and flexible yet incredibly strong. Balance, poise, control of breath, elegant posture…

We don’t all have the bodies of dancers but can still benefit greatly by the system of exercise and injury rehabilitation which dancers have used for the last 80 years.

For those interested, there are many sources of information available about the history of Pilates. Suffice it to say that Joseph and Clara Pilates invented and developed what we believe to be the kindest, most precise and effective way for an individual to fully develop the potential of their body, and more.

The rehabilitative effects of Pilates are self-evident to those who have experienced or witnessed them. We receive many referrals from doctors, physiotherapists, osteopaths and chiropractors, as well as caring for rehabilitative clients under Workcover and insurance compensation coverage.

Feeling better physically vastly improves our outlook on life and, along with the increased body awareness and comfort Pilates exercise can bring, the precision and concentration involved can help centre the mind and create a sense of peace and well-being.

Pilates is not for those who desire a ‘no pain, no gain’ boot camp pump-it-up routine of exercise. It is for those who want to achieve a more beneficial and long lasting effect on the whole body, utilizing subtle and controlled movements on the resistance-based equipment invented by Joseph Pilates , rather than pumping iron to a television set or jogging on hard cement next to a line of traffic.

To rehabilitate an injury, to gain more mobility, to prepare for pregnancy or to just get fit in a clean, happy and personal atmosphere.
